Marlins Minutes - Meet Recap and Immediate Needs

Hello Marlins,

I hope everyone had a great weekend after our exciting down to the wire victory on Thursday. There was some administrative clean-up and some linking repairs needed after our first meet that needed fixed ahead of sending this message - so that's all done and so without further ado...

Awesome job to our swimmers and coaches on our first meet, congratulations on the win. The score was back and forth for most of the night and was usually within 8 points of each other, then they had a surge just past the halfway point, but we mounted a comeback and it came right down to the end for a 2-point victory. Those that have been on the team for a while may remember we had a 2-point loss a few years ago so this time we were on the better end of that result. This was also a win against the one team that we swim against every year.

I'll get into some more meet win info as well as record setters after these brief announcements...

I want to express many thanks to our volunteers - things went well, especially for our first meet and many new people helping out. Also, it was a great job cleaning up our area - it looked good as we left.

A few volunteer notes for next week:

  • Before the meet there will always be a timer meeting - you need to be attentive to the announcement for that meeting - I know this past week it was hard to hear the announcements. Our next announcer will be borderline obnoxious about it.  ; )
  • If the Master recorder and Judges aren't part of that meeting then we will have a separate meeting for them as well.
  • We are short 34 volunteers for this week's meet. We need everyone who has not signed up or those who have multiple kids and have only signed up for one shift to go to the June 9th Home meet against Laurel Springs under Meets & Events and sign up for open volunteer shifts.
  • Only about 1/4th of the swimmers have declared their attendance plans for this weeks meet - please do this ASAP - same link as above and.......   IT TAKES LESS THAN ONE MINUTE SO GO DO IT NOW  ; ).

Thanks so much for everyone with the concession donation items fulfillment - they all have been claimed. Please remember to bring those items to swim practice anytime and we will store them. And those bringing fruit and ice just coordinate with Casey (Head of Concessions) on the best time to drop those off on meet day.

So some more details and props on the meet...

We want to give a special team player thanks to the many swimmers who "swum up" into older age groups and filled in for our age groups that have low numbers for this season. You want the ultimate example - we had 3 13 year olds and 1 14 year old swim the final event of the night, a men 15 & over event - they received 3 team points for their finish - we won by 2. You want another example of how important every swimmer is on the team and how their individual efforts make a difference to the team - our last 3 scorers received 0.75, 0.75, and 1.0 points - those 3 individual accounted for 2.5 points, again, we won by 2. Another shout out is due for the 13-14 year old girls who isn't a small group but over half of them were out for the meet leaving us with 3 - those 3 swam almost every single event they could, one did swim every event, a total of eight events - and by the way.....

The swimmer that did every event she could for her age group was our leading point getter this week - Livvy Tenore achieved a total of 20 points in the meet - awesome job. We had a total of 16 swimmers receive 10 or more points in the meet!
