Marlins Minutes from our Meet & Heads Up
Hello Marlins,
Happy Father's Day to the fellow dads! I hope everyone is having a great weekend and staying cool.
Our meet had some weather interruptions but we pressed on and almost completed the whole meet. We finished 77 of the 86 events. Some other teams in the area cancelled so we are appreciative that everyone was patient and adaptable so our kids could get to swim. It was a great meet and we had some great performances. The overall result was a loss but their team was nearly 50% larger than our team so going in we had an idea of what the point difference would be based off the numbers and we actually did better than the expected difference so we'll count that as a successful performance.
As additional proof of our successful meet, we had more records broken.... but as always, let's take care of some housekeeping notes first...
I want to thank all the volunteers - we couldn't do it without you all.
- We are short 7 volunteers for this week's meet. Mostly in the bullpen. We need everyone who has not signed up to go to the June 23rd meet at Grand Cascades under Meets & Events and sign up for open volunteer shifts.
- We are short 28 volunteers for our home meet on June 28th. Please get signed up for that event as well.
- Thirty-nine swimmers have not yet declared their attendance plans for our next meet, and 50 have not signed up for the final home meet on Tuesday, the 28th. Both of these meets are open to declare attendance - please do this ASAP - same link as above and....... IT TAKES LESS THAN ONE MINUTE SO GO DO IT NOW ; ).
- As you can gather from the previous bullet points - we go from a Thursday Meet to a Tuesday Meet, then our Thursday Marlinbration party and right into Friday Divisionals Meet at Georgia Tech - these are tight turn-arounds and there is a lot of work required from the staff. We really need you to sign up for volunteering and declare your swimmer(s) attendance for both of the upcoming meets asap so we can keep our focus on preparing for all the other events.
- Also, and this is worthy of all caps ; ) .... YOU WILL BE RECEIVING ANOTHER EMAIL LATER TODAY - THIS WILL BE FULL OF INFORMATION ABOUT THE DIVISIONALS MEET AND FORSYTH TIDE STATE TEAM. IT'S A TON OF INFORMATION AND INCLUDES DEADLINES THAT OCCUR THIS WEEK AND THAT ARE VERY STRICT - WE DON'T HAVE CONTROL OF THE DEADLINES SO IT'S IMPORTANT THAT YOU READ THE DETAILS AND FOLLOW THE LAID OUT PROCEDURES. EVERYONE NEEDS TO READ THE ENTIRE EMAIL AND IF YOU ARE NEW TO DIVISIONALS AND STATES IT'S PROBABLY WORTH 2 READS. PLEASE READ THE COMING EMAIL CAREFULLY AND COME TO ME WITH ANY QUESTIONS DURING THIS WEEK'S PRACTICES.
- One additional talking point that goes back to this past week's meet - and hopefully this is pointless for the rest of the year because we certainly don't want to deal with weather issues again; but, in case we do......
- When the rain picked up and obscured our safe view of the pool, we called the meet being so close to the end. We had completed event 77 at that point. When a meet concludes early and abruptly, just like a normal fully ran meet, we need our volunteers, particularly those who have the team equipment and meet paperwork, to be sure that they are still taking care of properly turning in any paperwork and any equipment that they have in their possession. On Thursday people found a random cart and just tossed things into it - we weren't aware this was happening and the cart was out in the rain - we are missing stopwatches, clipboards, lanyards, signage, and almost every pen we handed out and what we do have was drenched. Some timing sheets weren't turned in and we had to stay for over an hour after the meet searching for them and finally figured out that someone tossed them in the trash because they were so wet in the cart - so guess what else we had to do - go through the trash and find the timers sheets to complete the meet data entry. We previously had no "if it rains, here's what you do" procedures - we now do. If you are a timer, place judge, judges recorder, or master recorder - be sure to talk to Nakia or myself before the meets to know what to do with all the equipment in case of rain. Also, if you are on the end-of-meet break-down crew, be sure you are looking out for any equipment and signage and are also aware of the procedures for the equipment. I'll try to detail the procedures in writing and have it available at some point but not sure when I'll have time to get to it so for now just check in with us. Thanks so much for your help with these situations, sorry that bullet point was so lengthy.
And now, the fun meet details...
We again want to give a special team player thanks to the many swimmers who "swum up" into older age groups and filled in for our age groups that have low numbers for this season. Times keep improving for all our swimmers, not just those who get listed below - it shows how great every member of the team is doing and it's exciting to see the progress. Keep it up Marlins!
We have a total of 41 swimmers who have reached 10 or more points this season. Twenty have reached 20 points. And 7 have surpassed 30 points.
Our top 7 in points:
