Championship Meet at Georgia Tech on Friday morning - Information
Hello Marlin Championship Meet Swimmers [ Parents : ) ]
There is a lot of information below about the meet on Friday. The layout of the information below is in order of how things should occur. Here are some quick bullet points for our team specifics and some key info that is also detailed below --- but please read everything.
- Pre purchase your parking, link is below
- When arriving, the garage entrance, parking, and getting up to the lawn in front of Aquatic Center may take some time depending on how many people are arriving at the same time – take this into account with your planning
- Everyone needs to be there by 7:15am – we will all enter together so please be on time
- We will meet on the lawn in front of the aquatic center. We will have a small Marlin sign to mark our gathering spot and all our early morning smiling faces.
- You need to check in when you arrive, so we know we have everyone before entering – when you meet up with the group just be sure Amy or Rik know you are there.
- If you are running late please call by 7:15a and let us know – we will have to come meet you if you’re arriving after 7:30 to show you to our area.
- Last year we all left as a team – it was a really neat way to complete the season – we did Championship team pictures with our hardware and ribbons we won in front of the aquatic center – that is the plan for this year as well. The session should be done by 1:30p and then we will head outside together.
- If for some reason you can’t join the post session photo session, you need to ‘check out’ with Amy or Rik before leaving – don’t just disappear on us – we want to be sure all our swimmers are accounted for the entire time.
- Please read everything below – give special attention to seating, venue ‘traffic patterns’, and order of events > these are different than normal swim meets or even standard meets at Georgia Tech. Also, details for our volunteers are near the bottom of the info.
Parking –
Parking will likely be available in the W10 parking deck that is adjacent to the front entrance of the CRC. Parking in that deck will be via PREPAID PARKING ONLY, you cannot pay at arrival. To purchase parking please visit https://gatech.parkmobile.io/events Parking costs will be between $12-15. This is the deck attached to the building. For people who did not prepay for parking will have to use W23 lot located at 990 State St.. There may also be limited parking across the street from the CRC and is located at 355 Ferst Drive, Atlanta, GA 30318. Those decks are a short walk to the building from there. A map of the area can be found at Georgia Tech General Parking Map and ASA Parking Diagram and Map Please plan accordingly.
Please don’t park anywhere else, unless you want your car ticketed, booted or towed. Due to construction around campus please try to carpool to alleviate congestion. Teams, please be advised that barring a miracle, traffic is still bad in Atlanta. Please advise your swimmers and families to build in a little extra time to account for any delays.
Team Arrival –
Teams will be allowed into the building on a scheduled arrival time basis. Please refer to the schedule for that time. Teams will not be allowed to enter the building until 30 minutes prior to their warmup time so don’t plan on getting there three hours early unless you enjoy being outside. Once you come into the building, please go directly to your team area, NOT to the deck. Please wait in your team area until your team is called to the deck for your warmup session.
. All athletes/teams must enter the venue via the FRONT entrance to the Campus Recreation Center on Ferst Drive. No teams will be allowed to enter the venue via the Tech Parkway entrance.
Teams are requested to come through the Team Entry location as one team with a team representative to supervise the arrival process. Any late arrivals will need to be met and escorted into the venue to your team area. There will be a meeting area outside of the Campus Recreation Center entrance where coaches and team coordinators can collect their team members before entering the venue as one group. Anyone (coach, team rep, or scheduled meet volunteer) coming onto the deck should have a credential in hand or visibly displayed and must display the credential at all times. Please do not instruct your swimmers to arrive and enter the building whenever or wherever they like. Unaccompanied athletes will NOT be allowed into the building. Please go to your designated team area and remain there until your warmup time.
TEAM SEATING AREAS - Please Refer to Team Seating Assignments Link Below
Assigned team areas will be either in the upstairs seating gallery or in the bleachers on the pool deck. Each team will be assigned a specific seating section and row(s) or bleacher and must sit in that section for the meet. Athletes and coaches should remain in their team areas at all times unless they are going to the deck to warmup or compete in a race.
Each team has more than enough seats to handle their entire group, including coaches and parent helpers. Teams, please don't allow your swimmer's parents to sit with them in your team area, this will result in you not having enough space for them. Conversely, please don't allow you swimmers to sit with their parents in the spectator sections.
Please make sure you sit only in your designated area for team setup. A full diagram of the pool as well as traffic flow to from and on the deck can be found at GTAC Inside of Pool and Deck - Traffic Flow.
Teams are NOT ALLOWED to bring large coolers or other items into those seating areas, smaller coolers or bags that fit underneath one of the seats in the stands are permitted, but items larger than that are not permitted. Please keep this in mind when planning on what to bring to the meet. We advise each athlete bring their own water/sports drink and any food needed.
Teams are welcome to bring team signs, but we request you use blue painter’s tape or zip ties only to hang your team signs. Please do not use masking, scotch, athletic or duct tape to hang your signs. Damage caused by use of anything, but blue painter’s tape will be the responsibility of the offending team.
Teams are reminded to stay in your team area during the meet unless you are going to warmup or swim. Please remind parents, no one can go on the deck without a credential. Your cooperation with this is crucial to helping us manage the number of bodies on the deck.
Team Warmups, Seating Locations and Arrival Schedule -
Session 5, Fri. 7-1
Longlake Warmup > 8:00 - 8:20 am - Girls - Pool - Lanes - 1-3
Venue entry > 7:30 AM Sec. 101 Rows, A, B
For team warmups, there are assigned lanes and pools this year. The boys pool is the one to your left as you face the pool from the stands (the pool closest to the main scoreboard). The girls pool is the one to your right as you face the pool from the stands (the pool closest to the diving well). Please remember feet first entries in the inside 8 lanes (lanes 1-8) during their session, lanes 0 and 9 which are for 1 way sprints only. The diving well will NOT be available during the scheduled warmups. Once competition has started it will be available for warmup and warmdown, please do not use the diving well. For each warmup session teams must supervise their swimmers at all times. All swimmers are to enter the water feet first, except in lanes 0 and 9 which are for 1 way sprints only. Teams not complying with these rules will be removed from their warmup session.
Please be prompt in exiting the water when you warmup session ends to allow the next group to have full use of their warmup time.
Other Important Reminders -
Just a quick reminder, during our championship we swim a different order of events than your regular dual meets. The order is as follows:
Order of events for ASA Championship
1.6 & Under Free Relays - All 6 & Unders should go to the bullpen as soon as they are done swimming their relays to get lined up for their freestyle swim.
2.All Medley Relays
3.6& Under 25 Free - All 6 & Unders swimming the backstroke should go to the bullpen as soon as they are done swimming freestyle to get lined up for their backstroke swim.
4.All Remaining Freestyle Relay Events
5.6 & Under Backstroke - After this event the 6 & Unders are done swimming.
6.All Remaining individual events (Short Free, Long Free, Back, IM, Breast, Fly)
The one thing that does remain intact are the actual event numbers used in a regular ASA meet. So event 13 (6 and under girls free) will be followed by event 77 (7-8 girls 100 Free Relay) based on the info above.
With that in mind, I am providing a link to a cheat sheet of sorts. If you click on ASA Divisional Order of Events it will provide you the order of events and the event numbers that go along with it.
Pool Usage and Lane Numbering
It's been since 2019 since we swam in 2 pools for this meet. Don't forget the boys will swim their events in the pool located nearest to the main big scoreboard, the one on the left as you face the pool from the spectator gallery). The girls will swim their events in the pool located closest to the diving well.
Don't forget, the lane numbers at Georgia Tech are from 0 through 9 (not 1 through 10). Lane 0 is located closest to the window side of the pool, lane 9 is located near the spectator seating. For an overview of the pool deck please see GT Pool Diagram . I hope this info helps. I
TEAMS SHOULD PRINT THEIR OWN COPIES OF THE HEAT SHEET FOR THEIR OWN USE. Print as many as you want. We will NOT be providing printed copies for teams or coaches nor will they be on sale at the meet.
Timers –
Report to the respective bullpen you are timing on the deck near side of the pool (girls by the diving well, boys by the boys pool and interior stairs) no later than 30 minutes before the start of your session. They are responsible for serving as backup timers for the timing equipment. TEAMS NEED TO BRING THEIR OWN STOPWATCH FOR EACH ASSIGNED TIMER. 2 people work each lane, one person works the stopwatch. The person works a backup button for the touchpad that they depress at the FINISH of the race, the button will arm automatically at the start of the race. The button pusher also records the stopwatch time on a clipboard (that we will provide) for each race. Any relief timers that will work the second half of the meet for a team should access the deck by going down the back stairwell behind spectator seating. From there, follow the signs down the lower hallway to the collection area just off the deck near the finish end of the pool. If you are a relief timer, please do not use the stairs on the inside of the pool by the scoreboard, that is for swimmers only to go to their races.
Credential Summary -
Relay Only Crendential (Yellow) - These are for teams to have some extra parent help to get your relay swimmers to the blocks and ensure they are on the correct side of the pool. These allow deck access during the relay events only. At the conclusion of the relays those parents must leave the deck and return to the spectator gallery.
Parent Deck Helpers - (Green) - These are for teams to have a little extra help for coaches to oversee swimmers in team areas located on deck and for teams located upstairs to be able to transport swimmers to the bullpens and collect them to return upstairs after an event.
Meet Workers (Blue) - These allow your assigned meet workers (timers, runners, awards, etc...) to get to the deck for their assigned jobs. Teams are provided two sets of these, if you were assigned 4 jobs you got 8 credentials. This allows you to have a second shift of workers. Please only use these to access the deck while you are actually working. If you are just standing around with one of these on, we will find something fun for you to do, like scrub the parking lot with a toothbrush. Please don't abuse the use of these passes and overcrowd the deck.
